1906 - 2008
Albert Hofmann, the Swiss chemist who discovered LSD, has died of a heart attack. He was only 102.
On Friday afternoon, April 16, 1943, Hofmann had just completed synthesizing a batch of compounds when, he subsequently wrote to his supervisor:
“I was forced to interrupt my work in the laboratory in the middle of the afternoon and proceed home, being affected by a remarkable restlessness, combined with slight dizziness. At home, I lay down and sank into a not-unpleasant intoxicated-like condition, characterized by an extremely stimulated imagination. In a dreamlike state I perceived an uninterrupted stream of fantastic pictures, extraordinary shapes with intense, kaleidoscopic play of colors. After some two hours, this condition faded away.”
And thus the world’s first-known acid trip was born.

Jason Beghe Speaks Out Against Scientology...
Jason Beghe has a long list of acting credits in film and TV. He was also used to be in countless Scientology PR and training videos, including a recruitment video for Scientology’s Sea Org.He is the FIRST celebrity to leave Scientology and publicly discuss his involvement and then disillusionment with the group. He made it to OT V on Scientology’s “Bridge to Total Freedom” and discovered the best way to get free was to get up and walk out the door.
"It’s very, very dangerous for your spiritual, psychological and mental, emotional health and evolution. I think it stunts your evolution.”
Heres a teaser of the interview. I have watched it in its entirety and I believe Mr. Beghe is being honest and sincere.

Jennifer Holliday....
Holliday originated the role of Effie and remained with the show for nearly four years after its December 20, 1981 opening. Her performance in the role was widely acclaimed, particularly in her iconic performance of the musical number that ends Act I, "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going".
Among the acclaim was Holliday's sweep of awards in 1982, including the Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical, a Grammy award for her recorded version of the song, and Drama Desk and Theater World awards for the performance.

Djurdjica Kesic...

This ring series reflects interest in exploring the notion of preciousness within the seemingly non-valuable. The rarity of the material is not any longer the defining aspect that renders the object precious

Vessel ring that conceptually contains, carries, transports what is personal to one. The dimensions and form for this ring stems from the body, emerging from the contours of the hand.

TRANSITIONS
In the ‘Transitions’ series the starting point is an old, reclaimed chair. Through observing its function, form and materiality and through a series of interventions, a number of jewellery pieces have emerged.

Trying to capture fragments in time and space (and place) has been the main source of inspiration for the ‘Fragments’ series. Drawing from the surrounding environment, the patterns for this series appear.

Princess Diana Unlawfully Killed....
A coroner's jury in London ruled Monday that Princess Diana and boyfriend Dodi Al Fayed were unlawfully killed through the reckless actions of their driver and paparazzi in 1997.The jury had been told a verdict of unlawful killing would mean they believed the reckless behavior of the driver and paparazzi amounted to manslaughter. It was the most serious verdict available to them.

Ms. Holiday is interred at the St. Raymonds Cemetary - Bronx, N.Y.
In 1972, Diana Ross portrayed her in a film that was loosely based on Lady Sings the Blues, the autobiography she co-authored with William Dufty, which earned Ross an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. In 1987, Billie Holiday was posthumously awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. In 1994, the United States Postal Service introduced a Billie Holiday postage stamp, she ranked #6 on VH1's 100 Greatest Women in Rock n' Roll in 1999, and she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000. Over the years, there have been many recorded tributes to Billie Holiday, including "Angel of Harlem," a 1988 release by the group U2.Olympic Torch Extinguished ....
Police have escorted the flame onto a bus, apparently to move it away from protesters.
The flame was being carried out of a Paris traffic tunnel by an athlete in a wheelchair when it was stopped because protesters booed and began chanting "Tibet."
It was the second time Monday that officials extinguished the torch amid protests. The procession was apparently being continued on board a bus.

The “biennial of television,” Art in the Twenty-First Century premieres on PBS in the United States every two years. Each season, Art:21 — Art in the Twenty-First Century presents four hour-long programs profiling four to five diverse visual artists currently working in the United States. The programs are structured around themes like those used to organize art exhibitions, narrowing what Robert Rauschenberg called “the gap between art and life.” Each segment offers an intimate view of the artist’s creative process, by filming the artists at work, documenting their artworks, and providing thoughtful, in-depth interviews.
Charlton Heston
Although I didnt agree with Mr. Hestons conservative personal views, I do feel it is necessary to acknowledge his film career as an icon of 1950's cinema.
In 1959, Mr. Heston won the Best Actor Academy Award for his portrayal of Ben-Hur.
I still have this vivid memory of when I was a child watching "The Ten Commandments". The scene when Moses(Heston) parts the Red Sea,was a moment in film I found to be amazing.
I wonder how Mr. Heston, the former president of The National Rifle Association, will feel when he finds out "there are no guns in heaven"?
